Independent Medical Evaluation
A provider who has not previously been involved in a person’s care examines an individual. There is no doctor/therapist-patient relationship. IMEs may be conducted to determine the cause, extent and medical treatment of a work-related or other injury where liability is at issue; whether an individual has reached maximum benefit from treatment; and whether any permanent impairment remains after treatment. An IME may be conducted at the behest of the parties involved in the case to obtain an independent opinion of the clinical status of the individual.

Multidisciplinary Panel Evaluation
This occurs when two or more physicians are required to participate in the IME. This is determined by the nature of injury/injuries and what specialties are required to provide input. The physicians consult to make their final determinations on the case.

Radiology Review
The Physician or Radiologist reviews imaging to provide their opinion on the findings.

Impairment Rating
Impairment rating (IR) is a medical assessment of a claimant’s injury represented by a percentage value. A physician may assign an IR to the body as a whole or to a specific body part. The rating may then be used to calculate the workers’ compensation benefits owed to a claimant. Impairment ratings are particularly important in determining disability benefits.

Medical Record Review
The physician reviews the medical records to provide their comprehensive decision on the status of a case.

PharmD Review
In their review, the PharmD may include evaluating the appropriateness and effectiveness of medication use and examinee therapeutic responses to drugs.

Expert Testimony
An expert medical witness is a physician qualified, by reason of his skill, knowledge, education, experience, or training to testify on a particular medical area. He is a person who has knowledge about the medical and health care profession, beyond that of an average person. A qualified medical expert witness can offer an opinion about the medical issue related to the case.

Second Opinions
The physician evaluates the patient and medical records, to provide their opinion on the direction of treatment or specific recommendations for treatment.

A LNR can determine the strength and weaknesses of the case it is used to assist them preparing for settlement. Completed by the Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC) or a Legal Nurse Consultant Certified (LNCC).

Medical Cost Projections (MCP)
A Medical Cost Projection (MCP) provides a chronological overview of the medicals, determining future medical care based on the patterns of care in the medical and anticipated outcomes, and identifying the costs for future care. Medical Cost Projection (MCP) reports are much more abbreviated when compared to Life Care Plan report. A Medical Cost Projection (MCP) is typically completed when the referral is attempting to understand the medical damages on the case. The Medical Cost Projection (MCP) identifies the probable future medical costs and allows for accurate claim reserving. A certified life care planner completes these reports.
